We Bought a House!!

HOME OWNERS!!

What have I been up to these past few months?

Well… aside from growing a little human, we did a thing and bought a house!

2020 has been a year of a lot of things, but for me (and my husband) it has truly been a year of growing up. First a pregnancy, now a house! Who are we?!

My husband and I have talked about buying a home for a while, but honestly, we were enjoying our downtown apartment living. Saving money, living close to work, we were living the life. However, once we got that positive pregnancy test our talks got a little more serious. Talks turned to searching, searching turned to showings, showings turned to finding our dream home. At such a weird time with all that is going on, for us… timing could not have been better.

Everything escalated rather quickly during this process. We got our positive pregnancy test early March, and that really got the ball rolling. At that point Zillow became my husband’s best friend and he just began looking around. By the end of March/early April we were already going to look at some homes- which during a pandemic was quite interesting. We looked at a handful of homes in the area we wanted to live, but nothing was quite the right fit. For the prices and the amount of work the homes would need (while soon having a baby), the homes we were looking at just were not for us.

That’s when my husband stumbled across this new community, I’ll admit slightly farther than we really wanted to go, but brand new. So, we drove by to look. Well, literally before we left the community, we had made an appointment with the builder to view some models- the next day! All the models were great, but there was one that spoke to us (and our budget) the most. Honestly, I thought this was just like every other time we discussed buying a home. I was expecting to get information, go home and keep going on with our lives… then we started to discuss plots, timelines, and costs- things were getting REAL! Turned out there weren’t too many plots available, especially ones that we liked. Then the salesman started telling us about a home that they already had planned to build on a corner lot (bigger lot 🙂 ), that was set to take construction within a week or so. This home happened to somewhat be the model we were interested in… what were the chances?

With some more discussions we gave them an offer and told them if they could make it happen, we would be back Monday with our deposit. Sure enough, we were back Monday!

From there things moved VERY quickly! We signed for our new home at the end of April and construction started rolling almost instantly. We visited weekly to see the progress, and truly were amazed. By the time we knew it, we were headed to the design studio to make our selections on the interior features- talk about fun! Some items we weren’t able to change, due to the home already being scheduled/planned to build, but for the most part we were able to customize our new home. We selected colors, flooring, door and molding designs, appliances, and so much more. This made things feel so legit. We were really designing OUR new home!

Design Studio Fun 🙂

In what felt like a blink of an eye (helpful distraction trying to plan all things baby) it was already September and we were set to close on our beautiful, new home! I had been slowly packing up our apartment for months, but it was finally moving day. Since I was 7 months pregnant at this point (and still a pandemic going on), movers were definitely necessary. Since we live in Florida, it obviously rained, but other than that our move went very smoothly. Once all our stuff arrived, OCD Kaitlyn kicked into high gear and we started unpacking instantly. I wanted all the boxes OUT and everything in its place- helloooo nesting! Moving from a 2-bedroom apartment to a full home, we had quite a bit we needed to get… but that’s half the fun, no? Thank goodness my husband is just as crazy as me in wanting to get things done. We have basically gotten all the necessities and have put everything where it needs to go. Obviously, the nursery was first on the to-do list 😊. We still have some minor things to get, like artwork and whatnot, but for now we have done a great job making this new place our home!

Now, we wait for little miss to arrive and for our lives to completely turn around- for the better of course.

Patiently waiting for you Baby Girl!
