Part 1
Let’s just say I had EVERY intention on starting my postpartum fitness journey as soon as possible at 6wks postpartum, but sometimes life throws wrenches in our plans. One of my biggest goals with this blog was to be open, honest, and REAL… so here it goes!
On top of becoming a new mom, we had other family stresses arise out of nowhere which threw my hopeful workout schedule off quite a bit… I also didn’t have my postpartum follow-up appointment until I was 7wks pp. Being a personal trainer, and truly loving fitness, I felt like I NEEDED to get working out ASAP. But to be honest, that goes against everything I believe in. I never want to feel like I NEED to work out, I want to WANT to work out. Which don’t get me wrong, I did! But I also had more important life things to handle.
So around came 8 weeks postpartum and I finallyyy got in a “workout”. I use the quotations because let’s be real, it wasn’t a typical workout for me… but that’s the thing, postpartum exercise is a process, you shouldn’t jump right back in… that’s not how our bodies are designed. We literally just grew and birthed a human! Our bodies need to adjust and slowly work its way back up to where it once was (a lot of people don’t realize this, especially a lot of “influencers” that I see). If you’ve read some of my previous posts, you know that one of my goals as a personal trainer was to educate people (especially women) and getting my Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Certification was a big part of that, and of course I am going to practice what I preach!
Another big struggle for me is that it’s just me and my husband. We don’t have family around to help, and with COVID we’re even more cautious/careful. My husband works during the day, so trying to find the time to workout has been far from easy (especially with an ever-changing baby schedule).
With all that said, here I am 10 weeks pp and I still only have that one workout under my belt 😐 . As I stated earlier, life happens! Unfortunately, my family and I had to take an unexpected road trip to Colorado for family reasons (yes we drove- with a 2 month old). We chose to drive for many reasons, but let’s just say that alone was an adventure. Driving with a baby made our drive about 3 days (each way) and then we spent a week up there. I had no time (or energy) to even think about a workout.
Is it killing me that I haven’t worked out? Of course! But I also know that I need to listen to my body and do what I can! One thing I’ve learned in my journeys is that everything will come with time.
Next week is a new week, and I plan to take FULL advantage of it!
So, for now, I’m going to get my life back together… tons of laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping, and getting my baby back on track (and on ET time).
Follow along with me on this postpartum fitness journey! I’ll be sure to keep you guys updated with where I am and how I’m doing… I know I’m not alone out there. Just remember, you got this! And never compare yourself to anyone else, this is YOUR journey!
